Scuderia AlphaTauri, or simply AlphaTauri, and competing as Scuderia AlphaTauri Honda, was an Italian Formula 1.5 racing team. The constructor was rebranded for the 2020 Formula 1.5 World Championship from "Toro Rosso" to "AlphaTauri" in order to promote the AlphaTauri fashion brand. According to Franz Tost and Helmut Marko, Scuderia AlphaTauri is no longer the junior team but the sister team to Red Bull Racing. The team was once again renamed and rebranded at the end of the 2023 season to VCARB.

Origins[]

In September 2019, Toro Rosso announced the application to change their naming rights for the 2020 championship. It was announced on 1 December 2019 that the team nominated "AlphaTauri" as their new moniker to promote parent company Red Bull's fashion label of the same name by purchasing Toro Rosso's naming rights and thus will become Scuderia AlphaTauri whilst retiring the Scuderia Toro Rosso moniker after fourteen years.

History[]

2020 Season[]

AlphaTauri had Daniil Kvyat and Pierre Gasly drive for them in their debut season. The team remained with the Honda engine, being the team's engine partner since the 2018 season. Sérgio Sette Câmara, Sébastien Buemi, and Jüri Vips were signed as the team's test drivers. The team achieved its first podium finish and race victory under the AlphaTauri name at the 2020 Italian Grand Prix. AlphaTauri ended the year in 5th place on 244 points.

2021 Season[]

For the 2021 season, AlphaTauri retained Gasly and signed Yuki Tsunoda to replace Kvyat. The first podium of the year came from Gasly when he finished 2nd at the 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix to finish behind only Sebastian Vettel. He would then take another at the next round in France at his home race. Gasly took two wins over the season at the 2021 Dutch Grand Prix and 2021 Mexico City Grand Prix. The team also powered Yuki Tsunoda to his maiden podium at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

2022 Season[]

Gasly and Tsunoda were kept at the team for the 2022 season. The team also moved away from Honda engines to Red Bull Powertrains (RBPT). Gasly took the first win for AlphaTauri in Azerbaijan, after taking pole position. Prior to this Gasly took the team's first podium of the year in Saudi Arabia, finishing third. Tsunoda would also take a podium just two rounds later at Imola. Gasly would take another podium for the team at Monza finishing 2nd, where he won in 2020.

It was announced at the Japanese GP that Gasly would leave the team at the end of the 2022 season.

The team finished the season with 239 points in 5th place in the constructors championship, their lowest total amount of points since joining F1.5 in 2020.

2023 Season[]

For the 2023 season, Yuki Tsunoda was retained at the team and Nyck de Vries signed with the team with Gasly moving to Alpine after five years with the team.

Team principal Tost will be stepping down from his position at the end of the season and will be replaced by Ferrari sporting director Laurent Mekies at an unspecified date.

The team took their first podium at Baku with Tsunoda finishing second place behind Lando Norris. Tsunoda had a strong start to season, being second in the standings after the first 3 rounds behind ex-teammate Pierre Gasly.

Ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, De Vries was released from the team, with Daniel Ricciardo replacing him on loan from Red Bull Racing for the remainder of the season. Ricciardo suffered a broken metacarpal on his left hand after crashing during the second practice session of the Dutch Grand Prix. As a result, Liam Lawson was brought in as Ricciardo's replacement for the events between the Dutch and Qatar Grands Prix.

AlphaTauri would be no more after then 2023 season, rebraning to VCARB for 2024.
